In recent years, environmental degradation and climate change have become central global concerns, influencing public discourse and individual behaviour. There is a growing awareness around sustainability, particularly among young people, who are increasingly engaging in environmental action and advocacy.
In this context, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) organises GREEN Olympiad for Youth (GO4Youth)—an interdisciplinary environment-based examination programme. Designed for students aged 18–30 enrolled in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across India, the MCQ-based assessment aims to strengthen awareness and understanding of sustainable development, resource conservation, and environmentally responsible lifestyles. The initiative also integrates the principles of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) with support from University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India.
GO4Youth aligns with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes sustainability, multidisciplinary learning, and critical thinking. The examination adopts an integrated approach, covering themes such as environmental education, climate change, biodiversity, energy, waste and water management, and national sustainability initiatives including SDGs and Mission LiFE. GO4Youth also aspires to support UGC which has formulated a new student-centric Curriculum and Credit incorporating a flexible choice-based credit system, multidisciplinary approach, and multiple entry and exit options to pursue their career path by choosing the subject/field of their interest. By encouraging application-oriented understanding, GO4Youth supports the development of informed, responsible citizens equipped to address contemporary environmental challenges.| Mode of Examination | Online |
